How long have you worked at Richmond?
I started at the end of September, so about three months.
What does your role involve?
All sorts of things! I proofread and check textbooks and digital books, I have been helping with the process of finding images.
Which titles have you worked on?
Recently I have been working mainly on The Big Picture Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate Student's Books, but I have also helped to check the Digital Books for The Big Picture Elementary, Essential English and Essential American English.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy having a variety of tasks to do, which is certainly true of my job! It's really interesting seeing how textbooks are made, and being part of a team who make and edit them is very satisfying. Because Richmond is owned by a Spanish company, I get to use my Spanish occasionally, which is great.
What is your favourite Richmond title and why?
Probably The Big Picture Student's and Digital Books. I am impressed with how realistic the listening activities are. They give a good idea of how people really speak in English so they sound quite natural, which isn't always true of textbook activities. The books are really colourful too - I like the pictures, especially the ones on the front covers.
What is your greatest achievement?
I was proud of myself when I got my university degree (I studied Spanish and Chinese). I had studied hard for four years, trying to remember lots of characters and understand grammar, and although I really did enjoy studying things because I was interested in them, it was good to finish and know I had something to show for what I'd been doing.
What do you like to do in your free time? I love reading, especially books about languages and words, and I love music - I am always listening to the radio or my mp3 player. I quite like cooking and baking cakes: I often try out new recipes and bring in the results for the rest of the Richmond team to eat, and they don't complain so I can't be too bad at it!
What is your favourite country to visit and why?
I went to Peru five years ago for four months and I loved it. It's such an interesting and varied country - the people and the landscapes, and the Andes mountains are absolutely stunning. It's a shame it is so far away and costs so much to get there, otherwise I'm sure I would have gone back already!
Do you have a claim to fame?
My uncle once broke a world record for throwing a paper aeroplane - it stayed in the air for 20.9 seconds. And I won a ticket for the Live Aid concert in London in 2005, the biggest concert ever held, which was very exciting, but so did a lot of other people, so that probably doesn't really count! I enjoyed it though.
