Who reads these things?

Some stuff that has been/is significant in my life…
Northern Ireland, Henri Cartier-Bresson, wine, rainforest, Borneo, Dogen, Guinness, Nikon, Trinity Hall Cambridge, Spain, Norman Lewis, Suzuki, haute route pyrenéene, wieke, melati, Nicholas, rowing, ‘the best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity’, la roja, Peter Matthiessen, Barça

I’ve also been to university, got the appropriate teaching qualifications, given class to lots of people in different countries, and worked quite a bit in teacher training. And I’ve written some books too. Mostly, I’ve just been lucky.

PS If you haven’t already, try the keywords approach to your life as a getting to know you activity with students. It usually throws up a surprise or two…

Bye for now

Ann Gianola

Writing stories that motivate students to read and develop fluency has been a focus in Ann Gianola's career. By delving into the romance novel genre, she hopes to capture the attention of English-language learners worldwide in three comprehensible — and very entertaining — Richmond Readers: A Medical Match, A Floral Arrangement and PR & Prejudice.

Ann Gianola has been a longtime Continuing Education faculty member of the San Diego Community College District. She also teaches intermittently at the University of San Diego's English Language Academy. In addition, she is the author of six series published in the U.S. by New Readers Press: Stories Plus, From Home to School, Health Stories, That's Life, Life Goes On and Novel Scenes.

Her interests include spending time with family and friends, enjoying the beautiful surroundings of southern California, and working on current and future projects.

Marion Grussendorf

Marion Grussendorf

I began teaching by accident when I was still a student at Mannheim University, Germany, and I liked it so much that I took on more and more teaching assignments. So it felt like a good idea to continue working as an English teacher after finishing my studies.

In 2000, I set up my own company and I now specialise in in-company training in the Cologne area. In the last ten years I've been mainly teaching people in logistics and the insurance industry. My students work in very different areas so I had to start developing and teaching courses for specific purposes and language requirements. And that's what I actually love about my job – it's never boring, there's always a new challenge and new areas to be explored!

My interest in developing course materials led to the writing of a number of books for German and international publishers including titles on presenting, telephoning, logistics and, last but not least, the four Richmond Workbook Packs, which I enjoyed working on immensely!

I love travelling and meeting people in other countries (New Zealand is my favourite country and given the chance, I'd go there every year…), and I enjoy gardening and watching birds, which for me is the perfect way to relax after a busy day.
